Procrastinating with style - jewellery pics

I like to call it down time. Recharge time. Time to get the hands busy and allow the mind wander where it will, and rest a little.

So this is what you might find me making when I'm not writing, which seems to be fairly often lately.

Sterling silver, cultured pearls and lapis lazuli

Among those who value the meaning of crystals and gemstones, lapis lazuli is reputed to enhance intuition, awareness, and psychic ability.

Or maybe this is more what you need?

Copper with turquoise, amber, carnelian and faceted citrine nuggets
Carnelian is reputed to help one find focus amid confusion, while citrine dissolves negative energies and can be helpful in situations of stress or anxiety. I'm thinking now I've made this I should actually wear it while working on my WIP. I could certainly use some clarity!

I referred often to the healing energies of crystals in my recent novel, and found the research for this very interesting. I also have a number of friends who've consulted natural healers and psychics about various problems in their lives and have a strong belief in these areas of 'alternative' healing.

Do you believe in the healing and grounding power of stones? And in psychic abilities? Or are you a happy sceptic?

Oh and by the way, the lie in my last post? The whole thing was posed as a riddle and a play on words, and the answer really depends on reader perspective...but the main lie was that I told a single lie. Depending on your perspective I either told no lies at all...or I told several, all to do with whether you view obsessive recycling as interesting quirk, annoying habit or positive character trait! And whether you think I am guilty of bloviation. But I really am a 'greenie'. :-)

That sunflower is gorgeous. So jealous. I need to plant some of those. I do believe in the healing power of nature... herbs, spices, stones, etc. And I do believe strongly in female intuition. I've had instances where I "knew" what was going to happen before it did. Very weird. I don't believe in fortune tellers telling you exactly what the future holds, but I do believe if we are open to it, the universe speaks to us and we can know things through cosmic vibes. I know it sounds crazy and New Age-y but there is a kind of universal force that's available to everyone if we're in tune to it.

I'm in Jedi training as we speak. ;)

Nice! I have a WIP where the MC uses stones to enhance her healing powers.

I don't wear any jewelry (not even my wedding ring), but this stuff makes me sort-of wish I did. Nice!

Ooh, Adina, those are just beautiful! I too make jewellery when I'm not writing- or I did, until my baby-now-toddler came along. Now I bake and decorate cookies and cakes instead- far less chance of her jamming one of those up her nose or in her eye :P

oh wow, how cool. I tried doing something similar once but it came out as a mangled mess. I don't have the patience for it. ;)

You do a beautiful job! So lovely! I do believe in the healing power of nature, although I'm not sure about specific stones/crystals doing specific things. All creation has energy though, so who am I to say it doesn't do something specific to that energy?

Those earrings are gorgeous. I would totally go for a necklace in that design. I adore lapis lazuli. Then again, I adore any stone/gem that's blue.

You know, I've never given thought to whether or not I believe in the powers of natural stones/crystals. I'll say this, I don't mind wearing them in case they work, and just enjoying the way they look in case they don't. :D

Those are beautiful! I love hands-on activities that give you an immediate payoff (gorgeous jewelry) after time spent working. As opposed to those activities that never seem to end (like writing).

Have a wonderful weekend, Adina!

Beautiful. Just beautiful. When I was a teenager, I used to wear a rose quartz on a necklace. I believed.

These are gorgeous pieces.

In general I think there's a lot of stuff out there that surpasses human understanding, study and science. It's more fun to live in a world that holds some mystery to it, where everything can't be explained by science and rational thought. Pyschics, natural healing, the power of prayer, I believe in all of it.

Me want the pretties.

Beautiful work! I think there can be power in stones and healing, but I think belief is a big part of the equation. I think you have to be open for something to happen for it to be a possibility.

Oh, the earrings are beautiful! I'm especially partial to that shade of blue and silver.

I do similar work when I need to think. It's an excellent way to allow the mind time to ponder.

Those are so beautiful!!! I love making jewellery, although I don't think I've ever made anything as gorgeous as either of those pieces. Unfortunately all my stuff is in Peru, which is awkward because I am in the UK :)

I'm not sure how I feel about the healing properties of stones, but I do believe in the healing properties of plants. Since both stones and plants are both part of Nature I suppose I should give stones a chance, at least :)

And I do believe in psychic abilities, but when it comes to healing I prefer the chiropractor :)

By the way, thank you for commenting on my blog and congratulations on getting representation! I look forward to seeing more of you and your writing :)

I believe in the healing powers of stones. I think that they do have some magical powers hidden inside if you believe in them. :)

Thanks all for your comments - and yes, one of the nice things about projects like these is the quick payoff as Alison mentioned! Not like the months it takes to write a novel.

I think it's clear that many of us would like to view the world around us as one filled with wonder and mystery - not always scientific certainty. Food for thought anyway.

@Angela Scott: Rose quartz, huh? Hope you found love - or love found you!

Hello Crusader, I wanted to let you know that you have been shortlisted in the judging for the 1st Crusader Challenge! I was impressed by the clever way you turned the challenge into a riddle and how you disguised your lie. ☺

Thanks Amanda.

I had fun with this one - one super-long sentence...bloviation all the way. Might be one of the shortest too! The entire post is under 120 words. ;-)

Beautiful!! I've also found jewellery making to be very relaxing. I kinda just focus on what's in my hands and forget about everything else around me... (though I must say, your earrings are far prettier than any earrings I've ever made!)
