Most people know that book names are often changed by publishers, for whatever reason. My debut novel is being released today under the name Dark Child, which I love, as originally that was the name I'd given the planned series - though the first book had a different title.
My working title for the first book was Birthed by Moonlight, and not only did that name get cut but so did the original prologue that told the story of my main character's extraordinary birth. Seeing as today is a birth of another kind, the birth of Episode One of my first novel into the world, it seems appropriate to share Kat's 'birth' story with you. I've posted it in the 'Extras' section on my website.
You can also read a free sample from the beginning of Dark Child at my publisher's website if you go here. This is a longer sample than the one up at Amazon!
Enjoy. :-)
So, do you prefer to try before you buy? Are you a free sample reader?

Yes, I definitely indulge in the free samples - sometimes I buy, sometimes I don't, but I can't imagine any author going wrong with them. Congrats on the book!!!

Thanks so much Erica. Exciting times!
Adina! Massive moment! My gosh, I want to take you to lunch. Off to check out all of your links.
'Kat can run a marathon without breaking a sweat' is a stellar introduction.
And you look so, so beautiful in your author photo -- like someone you just want to sit and have a long coffee with (I forget, are you a tea or coffee girl? I do know you taught me how to spell rooibos.)
My sincere congratulations and support, friend. This is a huge milestone and I am so happy to share in this moment in some small way.
I wish you best of luck with your release! It depends a little what it is whether I sample. I tend to be a person who is in or out, so I USUALLY just read the back cover and either buy or don't. With self-published books though, I've taken to reading the freebie--many are done very well, but enough aren't that I just need to make sure there aren't distracting problems.
I not only love free samples, I love free books. If people give me a free book I read and review it. It's just awesome to get stuff I don't have to pay for.
Happy release!!! and best wishes. I like both those titles, DARK CHILD and BIRTHED BY MOONLIGHT. Nice lyrical excerpt! I like vividness of the spidery shadows. :)
Oddly... not so much. I thought I would be, but it seems I don't sit still long enough.
Congrats on your release! Hope Dark Child does well.
Hi Adina! I came across from RWA blog and OMG what an exciting time for you! Congrats on finishing your novel and getting published! I'm so excited for you.
Love the name Dark Child...makes me want to read it and find out all about it. I like to sample before I buy -- books can sound good, but the writing can disappoint. So I'm off to sample your story...
